Black ice is every drivers worst nightmare.
Snow you can see. You know its there weather is fresh powder, wind drifted or hard packed.
When its cold and raining we expect the road will very likely be slick with fresh ice.
Black ice is different. You can’t see it. You have no idea its there. Until its too late.
Cruising along at the posted interstate speed of 70 per when suddenly… You hit a patch of black ice as you pass under the deck of an overpass. Think fast!! React. Now! But how? One wrong move and a trip through the ditch may be the best outcome. Make the right move and your in your proper lane with the trailer trackin true.
Crank the wheel or hold it straight. Mash the gas or ease up ever so slightly. Stomp on the brakes? Never.
These things went racing through my mind the second I drove under that bridge deck earlier today.
How did I react?
A simple ease of the throttle kept me trackin true and easing on down the road. Honest truth is I was on the far side of the bridge before I realized I was driving on ice.
