WordPress Mobile App for BlackBerry Tutorial -Getting started, text, links, and pics

You’ve made the decision to start blogging and have decided that WordPress it what you what to use. The website works great. If you have access to a pc. Well WordPress & the BlackBerry Team have given us WordPress Mobile for BlackBerry. You can get it HERE if you don’t already have it. This is a free OTA download.

The first thing you must do in order to start blogging with your newly installed app is to go to the WordPress website and create your account. This is where you will choose the name for your account as well as the domain name for your page.

Your accounts set up on the website. Now how do you get started with the application on your BlackBerry? First, open the application. Simple enough. Now you will need to add your accounts to the mobile application. How? Well, start by hitting the BB menu button and selecting “add blog”

Then select the top item on the menu “wordpress.com blogs”

Then sign in to your WordPress account

And Select the Blog you wish to add to your mobile WordPress App.

So now you’ve added your blog from the website to the mobile app. Now how do you start posting? Click the top line “posts”

This is a new blog so you will see this “Hello world” post. This can either be left, edited, or deleted. I choose to delete it.

Now hit that BB menu Button and select “New” the next screen you see will be your post screen. This is where you make it all happen. Fill in your title, add categories, links, pics etc.

I like to add a category that fits what I’m writing about.

Now that you’ve added your category its time to blog. Have fun writing.

So you’ve finished writing and have hit “send” in the menu list. Your screen should look something like this.

So now go open your blog page in your browser and enjoy what you’ve written. How? Remember that domain name you chose when you first registered your blog? http:// blog name.wordpress.com

Oh, so you wish to add pic’s and links to your post? And have them placed exactly where you want them to appear? Stay tuned as this is not difficult. Its just not a 101 class.

Part 2 “Links”
You’ve mastered Blogging with WordPress for BlackBerry 101. Basic writing. This 110 tutorial will cover how to add Links or web addresses into your post.

The simplest is to just type it out. Such as: http://thesaucereport.com/ This shows the full address and allows for copy & paste to browser. Also it allows you to click on it and off you go to in this example The Sauce Report. However, I prefer to hide the actual web address and show http://thesaucereport.com/ as The Sauce Report instead.
But how? Simple enough. Hit the BB menu button and select “Link”

Then you may either type in the address or select “Paste URL” which is generally what I do. Copy the link or page address from your browser. Then click the “Paste URL” button. Be sure to add a description as this is what will appear in the text rather than the actual address.

If you’ve done this correctly it should appear like this on your blog post.

Part 3 “Pictures”
This is part 3 in my WordPress Mobile App for BlackBerry series. This is where the fun begins.

Start by going to the menu and select Media.

Then click “Add photo”

And click “Add Photo From library”

Then follow through the menu’s until you find the exact picture you want to add. This is where sticking the pics you know you are going to add in a separate folder. (Especially helpful if you plan to add more than one pic.)

You’ve found the picture you wish to add. What next? Hit the BB button and click “Select”

Now your screen should look like this with a thumbnail preview of your picture.

Now go back to the menu and click “All on Bottom” or “All on Top this will align all of your selected pictures either top or bottom. This is important when adding several pictures or when adding to or editing a post such as this tutorial.

Its usually at this point after adding my picture that I select “Send” from the menu. This will take a minute or so to upload the files. Once your post has been uploaded or “sent” check your post on your blog page to see that things are looking proper.

Ok, so you’ve found an error or you simply wish to add text between your pictures. Go back into the WordPress Mobile App and open the post you wish to edit.

Much the same as links, pictures will also show as code with a start & end tag. (See the next picture for an example of these start/end picture tags) To add text between your pictures simply locate the start/end tags and hit “Return” or the “Enter” key.

If you should need to move a picture up or down because its “out of order” simply go to the menu and click “Select” and then cut & paste it where you want it. When your finished simply click “Send” in the menu.

From here I think you should have a fair grasp on blogging with WordPress Mobile for BlackBerry.

So, I think this about wraps up the Tutorial for the WordPress Mobile App for BlackBerry.
