This year I have the pleasure of driving a MUCH newer quad axle dump truck.
Occasionally it becomes necessary to remove a perfectly good garage floor because of water caused damage. In this particular case ground water caused the block walls, that support the building, to lean out in such a way as to put the building at risk of collapse.
One of our newer dump trucks was purchased a few years ago with a spring ride rear suspension. This makes for a miserably rough ride both on and off road. Finally, after several drivers rotated in and out of #12 the powers that be made the decision to upgrade the suspension system this truck should have had from the factory.
I an looking forward to the opportunity to take this truck out for a test drive this spring. I do think that the addition of the air suspension will greatly improve the ride and handling qualities of this quint axle dump truck. -QBall45
Update – I’m told that the addition of the air ride suspension has completely transformed this quint from the truck no one wanted into the perfect dump truck. It’s not surprising really.
Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder (TARD) is a pattern of pathologically dis-associative and psychotic behavior, first observed in the late hours of November 8th 2016, and increasing in severity with passing time.
Sufferers of TARD often exhibit pronounced cognitive dissonance, sudden bouts of rage, uncontrollable crying, suicidal ideation, and extreme sadness.
People with TARD are characterized by a persistent unwillingness to accept that Donald Trump is going to Make America Great Again.
Individual sufferers often display signs of paranoia and delusion; in acute cases psychotic episodes have been observed.
TARD is different from being upset about the results of the 2016 presidential election; People with TARD are unwilling or unable to accept reality, despite irrefutable evidence.
According to the DSM-V, individuals with TARD exhibit most or all of the following symptoms:
– Telling others they are moving to Canada
– Fixated on fantasies about the Electoral College
– Protesting an election no credible source contests the outcome of
– Exclamations that “Someone” should do “Something”
– Acute change in demeanor from pompous and arrogant to fearful and combative
– Claim that anyone who disagrees with them is some combination of Racist, Sexist, Bigoted, Homophobic, and actually some sort of Hitler persona
Causes and Mechanisms:
TARD was directly caused by the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States of America.
For many, both in America and worldwide, this was a shocking and unexpected outcome; their preferred news sources having failed to inform them that the alternative candidate was a criminal parasite in such ill health she got chucked into the back of a van like a kidnap victim.
Diagnosis of TARD is straightforward.
Ask the patient if Donald Trump is going to be the Next President of the United States of America.
Some patients will become agitated, and may attempt to deflect.
It’s critical you press them on the issue, even if they start babbling about ‘muh triggers’.
A sufferer of TARD will begin to ramble incoherently, often displaying three or more of the symptoms within a short period of time.
The only known effective treatment is exposure therapy.
The patient must be repeatedly exposed to reality, and should wear a Make America Great Again hat as long as they are able to tolerate it.
Each exposure should increase in length, after a week the patient should be encouraged to be seen in public wearing the MAGA hat.
Coach the patient to refer to Donald Trump as President-Elect Trump.
Patients with TARD are very resistant to treatment, and dangerous in large groups.
Any possibility of treatment requires that they be separated from their hive-mind support apparatus; they cannot begin the process of accepting reality in the presence of encouragement towards delusion and irrationality.
Separation may require the assistance of law enforcement.
If you have a friend or loved one suffering from TARD, urge them to seek treatment.
Together we can beat this scourge, and Make America Great Again!
Borrowed this from Facebook. I don’t know the original author. I found it entertaining enough to share however I am not sure why it has sat here as a draft since November 16 and not posted until now. -QBall45
This morning I spent three hours working on cleaning an excavator. Yes it’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it. This 325 Cat looks monstrous when it’s inside the shop. In reality it isn’t all that big.
First things first. What can be removed from the tracks with a space must be removed. Why add to what’s already going to be a big ‘ol muddy mess if you don’t have to?
Did I get done washing? Nope. I was called away to run the dump truck. Much of the month of December was spent washing equipment and jumping in the dump truck as needed. I was very fortunate to be able to stay rather busy right up until the week before Christmas when things dropped off. Working in the wash bay as a driver is certainly not a glamorous job. However, washing equipment most definitely pays the bills at the house and for that I am very grateful. -QBall45

This week I had the opportunity to jump in the side dump for a while. The tractor trailer is something I’m extremely familiar with. However, running a trailer that tips sideways is a new thing for me. After spending a few minuets getting used to the controls for the trailer I went to load. I managed to make a total mess of things when I went to unload this first load. I’m accustomed to keeping the trailer in line with the tractor. However, when you are dumping something hard like concrete chunks you must jack knife the rig prior to tipping the bin. With the unit twisted you can easily back up away from the pile thereby voiding and damage to the tires. Being as I wasn’t hearing what I was told that the boss I missed the part about Jack knifing it. I ended up with concrete all under the trailer around the wheels. It took about ten minutes to clean up the mess by hand. Thankfully, the pieces where of a manageable size. My subsequent loads were unloaded uneventfully. I look forward to running this rig again. – QBall45
Sometimes things just happen. The first load of 3″ rock was delivered and spread to perfection. In fact subsequent loads were dumped in a pile as the dozer operator really wanted something to do.
Sometimes you completely rely on the guy on the ground giving hand signal directions. Most often this works out very well. Other times… Not so much. I’m not certain if he was distracted or simply slow to give me the stop signal.
Either way I ended up backed up off the rock and in the muck. It was as if the bottom dropped out from under the wheels. Axle deep and unable to move on my own. I guess that the dozer operator found a little something to do. It didn’t take much effort to free the truck from the grip of yucky muck it was stuck in. All in all it turned out to be a good day. – – QBall45
Wednesday started out washing some equipment. Unfortunately, the key on the dozer we’d left drip dry over night broke when we attempted to start it. With no replacement part on hand I worked around it the best I could.
Washing construction equipment is a dirty business. A nasty combination of dirty, clay, sand and gravel are washed off the equipment and then down the floor drain. Eventually that floor drain must be cleaned out.
After much physical exertion and three full skin loader buckets the only thing left to do is replace the drain covers and rinse the floor down. Messy and nasty yet satisfying.
Back in July of 2013 I took the kids to watch the mini rod tractor pull. Naturally I decided to take a few pictures.
Well… Pictures turned into videos. I’m not one for keeping cool videos to myself so it was uploaded to my YouTube channel. For some reason I was looking at view counts on the channel this evening and was more than a bit surprised by what I saw. This little video which was long ago forgotten has managed to get over 6 thousand views! Surprised? No. Completely shocked is more like it. Thanks for watching, QBall45
Having heard the stories about The Edmund Fitzgerald and it’s disappearance on November 10th, 1975 we’ve been talking about making a trip up to Duluth in November. So arrangements were made to get the trip put into our busy schedule. As luck would have it the weekend, Duluth and the majority of Minnesota is being clobbered by a big winter storm this weekend. Rain, snow, wind and waves. If the goal was to get a chance to check out Lake Superior and the huge waves the lake produces during a winter storm this is the perfect weekend for you.
